CDL CLASS A 160 HOUR PROGRAM - FULL TIME AND PART TIME
Our entry level CDL Class A 160 Hour Program is ideal for students who have little to no experience driving a CDL Class A vehicle. Our comprehensive entry level program is offered in Automatic and Manual Transmission.
CDL CLASS A 80 HOUR PROGRAM - FULL TIME AND PART TIME
Our CDL Class A 80 Hour Program is appropriate for students who already possess a CDL Class B and wish to upgrade to a class A, students who have yard experience maneuvering a class A vehicle, or a student who previously held a CDL Class A and let their credential lapse. Students applying to the CDL Class A 80 Hour Program will be required to demonstrate their skill level by taking a brief test to determine placement. Our advanced program is offered in Automatic and Manual Transmission.
All CDL programs at Big Rig Driving Academy include classroom, field, and road training as well as career assistance upon completion of your program. Our classroom is self paced and instructor led with materials on tablets or paper for all learning styles. And our pre-trip, field, and road training are our one-on-one so you’re never waiting to use a truck

- FMCSA’s required Entry Level Driver Training
- CT DMV’s General Knowledge, Air Brakes, and Combination manuals,
- JJ Keller’s Distracted Driving, Hours of Service, and Compliance Safety, and Accountability Act
BIG RIG DRIVING ACADEMY’S PRE-TRIP INSPECTION TRAINING:
- Dedicated pre-trip stations, computer stations to view our videos, a professionally produced pre-trip video that is one of the best in the industry, and an easy to follow study guide that makes learning how to correctly perform the pre-trip inspection simple.
- A unique working cab-off air brake station that gives you unobstructed access to see the how the air brake system really works when you press the brakes.
BIG RIG DRIVING ACADEMY’S MANEUVER’S TRAINING:
- Field training consists of the fundamental maneuvers: straight back, offset left and right, conventional and sight side parallel park, and alley dock.
- Drop and Hook, a skill not required on your DMV test but critical to know as a driver. We will introduce you to this maneuver and you can get a close up look at the equipment on our working fifth wheel station.
BIG RIG DRIVING ACADEMY’S ROAD TRAINING:
- On road hands-on operation in newer air-conditioned well maintained equipment
- Driving simulator to practice in a safe climate controlled environment.
- In town driving, left and right turns, sign identification, and operating in heavy traffic.
- Highway operation including entrance/exit, acceleration, distance management, and lane changes.
